The Guano Mummy

For centuries, the city of Guano has been the custodian of an important relic that today could represent a missing link. However, the Guano Mummy keeps a series of data of common interest. The mummy is believed to belong to the missionary Fray Lázaro de Santofimia, who since the mid-16th century has been the guardian of the church and the former Asunción convent. When he died, the body of Fray Lázaro was buried in the central nave of the temple, after the earthquake of 1949, a group of municipal employees found the mummy; Along with his body, a small mouse was also found in the same state. Both bodies were mummified naturally. In recent years, the mummy has rested in the Guano Museum that was built next to the church, where national and foreign visitors come to decipher the secrets that the only mummy found in Ecuador keeps.
